What each analytics dashboard measures
The Analytics Dashboard organizes LIS data into eight tabs. Each pairs summary cards and charts with a detail table of the requisitions, samples, or claims behind the numbers, and shared filters for department, client, client site, sample type, service group or test, and period (last 30 days, last 12 months, or a custom range) update charts and tables together.
- Volume Report. Specimens collected, received, and approved for the trailing 12 months, trended by day or month, with top-10 rankings by client site, test category, test type, and panel. The KPI is throughput and test mix: where volume comes from and what the lab is actually running.
- Client Delivery. Collection-to-receipt time bucketed into under 6 hours, 6–12, 12–18, 18–24, 24–48, and over 48 hours, plus the ten client sites with the longest delivery times. This is the courier and logistics KPI, and the tab labs bring to account reviews.
- Received / Rejected. Rejected and never-received requisition counts, daily trends, the client sites generating the most of each, and side-by-side detail tables with rejection reasons: the starting point for client-site coaching.
- Screening vs. Confirmation. Total, positive, and negative counts for screening and confirmatory tests, with percentage trends over time. For toxicology programs it shows what share of screen-positive specimens proceed to confirmation.
- Turn Around Time. Every requisition is classified as Meets SLA, Close to SLA, or Over SLA, with a compliance score shown as a color-coded badge (green at 90 percent or better, orange at 70 percent, red below). A test-priority filter separates STAT from routine work, panel rankings show which assays cause misses, and the detail table lists each requisition’s actual turnaround in hours.
- Remit vs. Denial. Remitted, denied, and outstanding claims in counts and dollars, trended over time, with the ten clients carrying the highest denied amounts and the ten strongest remitters, down to claim-level payment, write-off, and balance detail.
- Requisition Processing. A live seven-day pipeline view: open STAT requisitions plus counts ordered, collected, in process, and completed today, with patient, site, phase, priority, and panel detail for every requisition in flight.
- Manager. Administrative controls for which views are active and how often each refreshes, with a manual refresh after corrections or maintenance.
Role-scoped sales dashboards sit alongside these tabs: each sales representative sees only assigned clients and sites, while sales managers compare activity across the whole organization with billed, paid, and balance amounts per requisition. Dashboard access is limited to internal laboratory roles; client-portal users run only the report templates the lab publishes for them.
Why record-level drill-down matters
Summary charts tell a lab where to look; the linked detail explains what happened.
| Dashboard signal | Detail available for follow-up |
|---|---|
| Turnaround miss | Requisition, panel, priority, status, and actual turnaround hours. |
| Specimen rejection | Requisition, client site, date, and rejection reason. |
| Client delivery delay | Collection and receipt timestamps for the affected specimens. |
| Denial trend | Claim, client, procedure code, payer, payment, write-off, and outstanding balance. |
Chart tooltips show exact values, and every chart and table refreshes the moment a filter changes, so the operational question and its supporting records stay in one workflow instead of a dashboard plus a separate export.
How labs use the dashboards to move metrics
- Investigate turnaround misses. Filter SLA performance by test priority, review the panels associated with misses, and open the affected requisitions.
- Coach collection sites. Use client-delivery and rejection rankings to identify the sites that need workflow follow-up, and bring the delivery-time buckets to the next account review.
- Monitor testing mix. Compare screening and confirmation volume and review positive-versus-negative trends before changing the test menu.
- Review claim outcomes. Track remitted, denied, and outstanding claims, then inspect the claim-level amounts behind the totals with the billing team.
- Manage work in flight. Watch the requisition-processing view during the shift; a rising STAT count signals the bench needs attention now.
For reporting outside these tabs, the Report Runner provides role-authorized templates with guided filters, on-screen results up to 5,000 rows, uncapped file exports to CSV, Excel, or tab-delimited text, formatted PDF for supported templates, run history with metadata stamping, and recurring scheduled delivery by email, fax, HL7, the Client Portal, or supported EHR connections. LIMS IQ Lite includes the Report Runner and scheduled delivery with standard templates; the multi-tab Analytics Dashboard and sales dashboards are capabilities of the full LIMS IQ platform.
For definitions of the KPIs themselves (turnaround, rejection rate, delivery time, denial rate) and how to set targets, read clinical lab KPIs and the analytics dashboard. The LIS implementation timeline shows where analytics configuration sits in a rollout.
