- Clinisys described Orchard as a “proven solution in the physician office, reference, and veterinary laboratory space” serving “more than 2,000 laboratories across the United States in physician groups, hospitals, reference labs, student health centers, veterinary clinics, and public health organizations.” [1]
- Clinisys’s Orchard page states that “Orchard Software is now Clinisys” and that “Orchard Software solutions, which are now branded with the Clinisys name, will continue to be available and supported.” The products listed are Clinisys Orchard Point-of-Care, Clinisys Orchard Enterprise and Clinisys Orchard Harvest. - Harvest 14 and Harvest 15 received ONC health IT certification on May 18, 2026 under the Clinisys developer name, which indicates continued release activity. The same listing notes an annual support contract fee and a per-interface fee for certified interfaces added after the original installation. [2]
- The Clinisys Harvest product page includes the line “To learn more about converting from Clinisys Harvest to Clinisys Orchard, please contact our team.” [3]
That is what is public. Clinisys has not published a Harvest end-of-life date, a roadmap document or pricing, and this page does not speculate about any of them.

Vendor acquisitions in laboratory informatics are common and often benign: the acquirer adds resources, the product continues, and customers notice little. Roadmap. Which products in the combined portfolio receive new development, and what is the published plan for the product the lab runs? Are there release notes since the acquisition? For Harvest, the May 2026 ONC certification of versions 14 and 15 is evidence of continued releases [2]; ask what those versions contain and what comes next.
Conversion expectations. If the vendor invites conversion to another product in its portfolio, as the Clinisys Harvest page does [3], ask whether conversion is optional, what it costs, who performs the data migration and interface rebuild, and what the timeline is. A conversion to a sibling product is itself an LIS implementation and should be evaluated against alternatives on the same footing.
Support continuity. Which team supports the lab now, in which hours, through which channel, and with what escalation path? Have named contacts changed?
Contract terms. Read the assignment clause (did the contract transfer to the new entity?), the renewal term and notice period, any price-change provisions, and the data export clause: which data, in which format, at what cost, within what time after termination. Export terms decide whether the lab can leave at all.
Interface ownership. Who owns the analyzer and EHR interfaces the lab runs, and what does it cost to add one? The ONC listing for Harvest notes a per-interface fee for interfaces not implemented at original installation [2]; confirm the current figure.
If the answers are satisfactory, staying is a perfectly good decision.

According to the Clinisys product page as of September 2026, Harvest is “a comprehensive LIS designed with lab expertise” that “maximizes process automation and decision-support technology,” offers “SaaS deployment,” provides “rules-based decision-support technology,” and includes a Webstation through which “providers can place orders and retrieve patient results online.” Clinisys states its “expert interface team has built thousands of custom connections with analyzers, EHRs, billing systems, and more.” [3] The acquisition announcement places Orchard’s strength in physician office, reference and veterinary laboratories. [1] Orchard Enterprise, now Clinisys Orchard, is positioned separately for “high-volume, complex workflows.” [4]

When staying on Harvest is the right call
Be honest about switching cost. A lab should stay when:
- The lab’s analyzers and EHR are interfaced and stable, and rebuilding those interfaces elsewhere would cost more than any subscription saving.
- The lab uses capabilities that are specific strengths of the Orchard portfolio — point-of-care device integration, a veterinary workflow, or an established outreach program.
- Renewal pricing and support terms are acceptable and confirmed in writing.
- Clinisys has answered the roadmap and conversion questions above to the lab’s satisfaction.
Switching an LIS is a project with validation, training and parallel-run cost. It should follow a clear reason: an unacceptable renewal quote, a forced conversion the lab does not want, a support experience that has changed, or a strategic preference for a fixed-price cloud model.

- Secure the export first. Before giving notice, obtain the patient master, provider master, test catalog and historical results in discrete, queryable form. Confirm the format and cost under the contract.
- Decide the retention split. Migrate what CLIA and state rules require the lab to keep accessible and what clinicians use for delta checks and trending; archive the rest read-only.
- Inventory interfaces. List every analyzer and the EMR connection with direction (orders, results, both) and message type. This list drives both the timeline and the quote.
- Rebuild the test catalog deliberately. Use the move to retire unused tests, fix reference ranges and align LOINC codes rather than copying the old compendium verbatim.
- Validate. Run parallel on a defined sample set, compare results and reports, and document IQ/OQ/PQ evidence as described in the LIS validation guide.
